Christian met the designers in the green room after the previous runway show and they were drop-kicked directly into the next challenge. The designers were creating a runway look inspired by a hairstyle created by an up-and-coming African-American hairstylist. The pairs were matched up randomly.
They went to Mood and what a treat to see Swatch. Richard said, “The dog is still alive!” They did some business back in the workroom, checked in with Christian, and brought a stack of donuts to Aaron for his 40th birthday. And what was going on with that piñata situation? I didn’t understand that.
The next morning, Kristina said, “Why do we wake up to camera?” A question for the ages. The Tressemé hair room was a hotbed of empowered Black women, it was a joy to see.
Guest judge: model Precious Lee.
ON THE TOP
Kristina: I would describe it as “just fine” but the judges all loved it. Go figure.
Chasity: Beautiful dress, lovely pairing with the hair but I wasn’t convinced by the silver highlights on the bodice.
IN THE MIDDLE
Bones: Wow, that was exciting with all of the reveals. But Nina thought it was a good idea but not fully executed.. Brandon though there were too many conflicting elements.
Shantall: Sharp, but maybe a little too ready-to-wear?
ON THE BOTTOM
Coral: The jacket didn’t look good with the skirt and neither looked good with the hair.
Aaron: The raincoat was cool but the jumpsuit was a hot mess. I”ll quote Elaine: “What’s underneath, with all good love and respect, is tragic.”
Chasity was the winner. She was emotional when she got the news and Precious Lee got very teary. Aw. Aaron was sent home. Elaine called it “a tragic mixup.”
