Last week I had a craving for a movie I love, The Cabin in the Woods. It's become one of my favorite movies of this century - - it's both a horror movie and a commentary on horror movies. Like Barbie, it's much smarter than it needs to be.
There's a celebration happening in one scene and the guy starting the party puts a song on the PA, blaring out for everyone to hear. And the song? "Roll With the Changes" by REO Speedwagon. Amazing song. I went to their Greatest Hits was was sorely disappointed that there were so many droopy power ballads, "Can't Fight This Feeling," "Keep On Lovin' You," blah blah blah. Who needs it. Those dudes should have spent more time doing killer up tempo songs like this one.
The lead singer's articulation cracks me up. He uses a lot of what we singers call "shadow vowels" - - this is a vowel added after an ending consonant to give it more presence. He does it with "able" (ay-bull-lah) and "table" (tay-bull-lah). So affected, so delicious.
