I finally watched season 2 of Squid Game this weekend. I preceded it with a re-viewing of season 1, of course. Such an amazing show.
The Blue Danube waltz is prominently featured on the show and it reminded me of hearing Jeffrey Siegel play a wildly virtuosic arrangement of it back in the the 90s. Here’s Mikhail Pletnev playing it, presumably as an encore after playing a concerto. He plays with such grace, he downplays the camp aspect. Plus his styling is so marvelously ordinary. He looks like a bank teller.
