The Grammy for Best Contemporary Vocal Performance, Female for 1969 went to Peggy Lee for one of the greatest songs ever, "Is That All There Is?" Is that all there is to a fire? The Grammy for Best Contemporary Vocal Performance, Male that year went to Harry Nilsson on "Everybody's Talkin'." Also a great song.
Diva: "Is That All There Is?"
Mensch: "Everybody's Talkin' "
"Is That All There Is?" is surprising, upsetting - - I'm sure people hearing it for the first time really sat up and took notice. "Everybody's Talkin' " sounds like it was made to be heard on a car radio, it's catchy, groovy, and familiar. If you heard "Is That All There Is?" for the first time on your car radio you'd drive off the road.
