The Best New Artist award for 1971 went to Carly Simon. Maybe not a diva when you compare her to Diana Ross, but definitely a diva when you compare her to another big winner that year, ubermensch Carole King. Tapestry got Album of the Year, "It's Too Late" got Record of the Year, and "You've Got a Friend" got Song of the Year.
The song that put Carly Simon on the map is "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be," a song that gets better every time I hear it. The spooky arrangement is a diva trip in itself.
And Carole King, so heartwarming and familiar, you can't help but sing along.
