The Best Actress winner for 2015 was Brie Larson for Room. That role doesn't really fit in with our duality so I'm featuring two other nominees that year. The diva is Jennifer Lawrence in Joy, a movie that really holds up. I call it "The Mop Movie," it's about Joy Mangano who invented the self-wringing Miracle Mop, hawked it on QVC, and made millions. She's a strong woman, full of verve and confidence, and Lawrence is full force, a thrilling performance.
The mensch is Saoirse Ronan as an Irish immigrant finding her way in Brooklyn, a gentle, quiet little movie. Ronan is touching, tender, sincere.
