The Best Original Song winner for 1969 was "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" from *Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,* written by my beloved Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It's a breezy, sweet song with a little bit of a strut. In the context of the movie it's played while Paul Newman is showing off, and what could be more Diva than that?
"Come Saturday Morning" was also nominated that year, from *The Sterile Cuckoo,* music by Fred Karlin and lyrics by Dory Previn. It's a dreamy, hypnotic song, heard way too often in the movie, which is a coming-of-age drama that put Liza Minnelli on the map. Not a great movie but essential viewing for fans of The Liza.
