The 1990 winner for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album was Take 6 for So Much 2 Say. Clearly I need to do a deep dive into Take 6 because WHOA these guys are amazing.
Diva: their arrangements are stellar, constantly surprising harmonic shifts, fully exploiting the abilities of all six singers.
Mensch: the precision of their performances. This is the thing when you sing what are sometimes called "crunchy chords," chords with one or more dissonant notes - - you have to sing them absolutely in tune and with a clean yet warm sound. That's the only way it's gonna work and these guys nail it. The key is LISTENING. My college choir director, the astounding Robert Fountain, said, "There's a reason the Lord gave you two ears and only one mouth."
