The Best Actor winner for 1979 was Dustin Hoffman for *Kramer vs Kramer.* A menschy role and performance, I suppose, but the supreme mensch of the nominees that year was Peter Sellers in *Being There.* An odd little movie but so profound and touching, largely due to Sellers's deeply felt and understated performance. And the diva that year? Roy Scheider in *All That Jazz.* Give 'em the old razzle dazzle, baby! One of my favorite movies ever, one of those movies that gets better every time you watch it.
