One of the nominated movies for 1952 was *The Bad and the Beautiful,* an overheated little epic directed by Vincent Minnelli. It's a cynical movie about a favorite subject in Hollywood - - the movies! With Kirk Douglas (chewing up the scenery as only he can), Lana Turner (wearing a stunning collection of bright white wigs), Dick Powell (I love him in his grown-up roles), Gloria Grahame (I just love her, period - - she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for this), and Walter Pidgeon (bless his heart). Clearly I need to see this movie again.
BTW is that Clifton Webb's voice I hear narrating the trailer?
Diva: Bad
Mensch: Beautiful
