In 1983 the winner was Ingmar Bergman's lush, colorful film *Fanny and Alexander.* One of the other nominees was Woody Allen's *Zelig,* a quirky little black and white movie about a man with a disorder that causes him to take on the characteristics of the people around him, in an effort to belong and blend in.
