Diva: go go dancers in the Pride March
Mensch: marching behind the go go dancers
The first time I marched in the NYC Pride March was sometime around 2005. It was with seven of my coworkers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. We had MSKCC T-shirts, we carried an MSKCC banner, we had a great time. We were all greatly amused that we were behind the God's Love We Deliver float, which had go go dancers. The crowd was wild for those dancers, which made us feel a bit like an afterthought. But hey, we liked the music!
MSKCC ended up forming an LGBTQ+ employee resource group many years later and I was on the leadership council for my last years at that job. Our representation in the Pride March bore no resemblance to what it was years before - - there were over 100 people in our group the last couple times I did it.
Here are a couple photos. The go go dancers are in the Los Angeles Pride March. If you look real close you can see me in the MSKCC photo, I'm underneath the L in U-HAUL on the left.
