September 17, 2018 was a momentous day in the history of the EGOT. There were THREE new EGOTs made that night! Can you imagine. Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, and John Legend all closed their EGOT circle with wins for *Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.* Did you see it? It was good.
EGOT #13 is Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Diva: "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina" and "Memory"
Mensch: "Pie Jesu"
Oh my Lord, the opening of the 1998 Tony Awards was one of the greatest moments in television history! Maybe I just say that because I've watched it probably a hundred times. It features Rosie O'Donnell being hilarious, Patti Lupone and Betty Buckley singing their Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice showstoppers from *Evita* and *Cats,* and most thrillingly (and alarmingly), Jennifer Holliday singing her showstopper from *Dreamgirls.*
And the "Pie Jesu" from Lloyd Webber's *Requiem* - - pretty, docile. Sung by the Mrs. Lloyd Webber of the time, Sarah Brightman. And some random little boy.
Andrew Lloyd Webber (born 1948), a musical theatre composer, songwriter and producer, received his fourth distinct award in 2018. Between 1980 and 2018, Lloyd Webber received a total of 11 competitive awards.
