I was saddened to see an obit in The Times for Val Kilmer. He died of pneumonia at the age of 65.

Can you believe I forgot that he played Jim Morrison in The Doors? Maybe he'd prefer that I forget he played Batman in Batman Forever, but alas, I haven't forgotten then.

I think of him in two little movies: he played Willem de Kooning in Pollack, a tiny part but a big blond presence. And I was totally charmed by him in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, a movie in which Robert Downey Jr played an actor who's playing a police detective and is getting lessons from police detective Kilmer. I just watched this preview and laughed out loud at this exchange:

KILMER: Look up "idiot" in the dictionary, you know what you'll find?

DOWNEY JR: A picture of me?

KILMER: No. The definition of the word "idiot!"

I thought maybe I need to see that again - - but now I see that Corbin Bernsen was in it, and I DEFINITELY need to see it again.
