A true American original! Here's a good ABC tribute to him - - I didn't know that he wrote "Tutti Frutti," and definitely didn't know that he was working as a dishwasher when he wrote it.:
The clip I really wanted I'm not able to find on YouTube. Sometime in the 90s PBS did a series on the history of rock and roll, sponsored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It was incredible, every episode was brilliant, informative, entertaining. My favorite episode was about the influence of gospel on rock and roll, and my favorite moment had Little Richard at the piano, singing and playing a bit of a gospel song. He turned to the camera and said, "That's what makes my toe go up in my BOOT!"
Since I'm not able to use that clip, I've found a wonderful clip of Little Richard and Billy Preston singing "Didn't It Rain?" at the Apollo in 1985.
