My mom alerted me to the deaths of John le Carré and Charley Pride. Le Carré was a major author of espionage novels, best known for *Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy* and *The Spy Who Came In From the Cold.* I tried watching the movie of *The Spy Who Came In From the Cold* in my 20s and thought it was boring. The preview certainly makes it look exciting, but maybe they artfully stitched together the most exciting minute and a half in the movie?
Charley Pride was a trailblazer in country music. Such a wonderful singer, and I know I'm saying this a lot lately, such a cutie! He was 86 and died of complications of COVID-19. Heavy sigh.
Here's a live performance of him singing a song I love, "Cotton Fields:"
