CDA: Joey Molland

I read in The Times last week about the death of Joey Molland (age 77) of Badfinger. My brother Howard often mentions Badfinger and with a name like that I assumed they were an obscure rock band with a cult following. I had no idea they were so famous, successful, and influential!


I imagine there are countless bands from the 60s and 70s that lived in the shadow of The Beatles but Badfinger appears to have been propagated in that shadow. But they forged their own path and wrote and/or recorded some amazing songs:


They wrote this song that became a #1 hit for Nilsson (also a #1 for Mariah Carey):


This is my favorite of their songs…



…though I’ve been known to confuse it with this song (the opening phrases are nearly identical):
