Joel Schumacher was a Hollywood director who had his heyday in the 80s and 90s. He planted his flag with *St. Elmo's Fire* and *The Lost Boys* and went on to do *Flatliners,* *The Client,* *Batman Forever,* *Batman and Robin,* and the bad, bloated *The Phantom of the Opera.*
