My brother Howard alerted me to the death of Harold Budd, one of his favorite composers. He was 84 and died of COVID. He had a number of collaborations: Brian Eno, the Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie. He wrote the score to the movie *Mysterious Skin,* a creepy little number from 2005.
Here's a performance from 1989. Was he really performing in a cave, or was the venue called A Cave?
Sigh, what a great clip you found of the soft pedal man. That was the Lazarote Music Festival in Spain, curated by Eno and yes, performed in real volcanic caves. Laraaji's shimmering chords fit right in there nicely, too. I played at the last Drone Not Drones festival with him and he still has that magic touch.
