I only know Valentina Cortese from one movie, but she was so extraordinary in that movie, she deserves a blown kiss from me. She played a scattered actress making a French movie in Truffaut's *Day For Night.* Here's her best scene, really one of the most hilarious, adorable moments ever:

She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for that movie and got an apology from the winner, Ingrid Bergman, who had won for *Murder on the Orient Express.* Bergman mentions the weirdness of *Day For Night* winning the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1974, but Truffaut being nommed for Best Director and Cortese for Best Supporting Actress in 1975. The Academy rules at the time said that foreign films would be nominated in the year in which they were released in their home country, but other nominations for the films would be in the year in which the film was released in the U.S. They've since changed that, it really doesn't make any sense. Anyway, both Bergman and Cortese are adorable.
